A suspect has surrendered to police in Paris, believed to be the shooter in a recent incident in Poitiers that left one 15-year-old boy dead and four other minors injured.

The shooting occurred on Halloween, October 31, 2023, outside a kebab restaurant in Poitiers, where many young people were gathered for the festivities.

The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was reportedly innocent and simply out to buy a sandwich when he was shot, as confirmed by his family and local officials.

Local officials, including the mayor of Poitiers, have emphasized that the victim was not involved in any criminal activities, urging for a correction of the narrative surrounding the incident.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has linked the shooting to drug trafficking networks in the Marseille area, suggesting organized crime's involvement in both the Poitiers shooting and a related incident in Saint-Peray.

The 25-year-old suspect has a criminal history involving drug trafficking and violence, with prior charges related to weapon possession in Marseille.

The suspect is expected to face serious charges, including assassination, attempted murder, weapons possession, and drug trafficking, as he is transferred to Poitiers for judicial proceedings.

During a search of the suspect's residence, police discovered seven rounds of ammunition and parts of a dismantled firearm, which matched the type used in the shooting where eleven bullets were also recovered.

Following the shooting, Interior Minister Retailleau incorrectly claimed that a large brawl involving hundreds occurred, while police reported only minor skirmishes among a few dozen individuals.

The suspect was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder on November 7, 2023, by the Poitiers public prosecutor's office.
