The Australian soap opera 'Neighbours' has been cancelled for a second time, with its final episode set to air in December 2025, following a brief revival by Amazon.

The cancellation was announced on the show's official social media, confirming that new episodes will continue to be available on Prime Video and Ten until the end of the year.

Originally cancelled in 2022 due to funding cuts from UK broadcaster Channel 5, the series was revived months later when Amazon's Freevee acquired the rights to produce new episodes.

However, Freevee was shut down in November 2024, leading to uncertainty about the show's future.

A source indicated that Amazon withdrew funding from Fremantle after the show struggled to attract sufficient viewership during its two-year run.

Executive producer Jason Herbison expressed gratitude for the show's success and hinted at the possibility of future stories from the residents of Ramsay Street.

Since its debut in 1985, 'Neighbours' has been a launching pad for many notable stars, including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, and Margot Robbie, and has become the longest-running drama series in Australian television history.

Created by Reg Watson, the show has depicted the lives of Ramsay Street residents in the fictional suburb of Erinsborough, Melbourne, for 40 years.

To celebrate its legacy, a week of special episodes commemorating 40 years of 'Neighbours' will air in March 2025.

Despite its cancellation, 'Neighbours' received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series in 2024, marking a significant recognition for the show.
