Stellantis has announced a new electric vehicle platform, STLA Large, to be used in various models including crossovers and larger SUVs.

The STLA Large platform will enable electric cars to have a range of up to 500 miles on a single charge and accelerate from 0-60mph in under two seconds.

Eight vehicles using the STLA platform are planned to be released between now and 2026, with the platform being installed in plants across Europe and North America.

Stellantis aims to have 48 EVs on the market by 2024 and plans to invest over €50 billion in electrification over the next decade.

The STLA Large platform is modular, designed for commonality and updatability of parts, particularly the battery and electric drive units.

The platform will also support gas and hybrid powertrains, with plans to phase out V-8 engines, potentially offering choice between gas and electric power.

The platform incorporates Stellantis' new electrical architecture, STLA Brain, enabling easy software updates.
