Strategy Acquires 7,633 BTC, Launches $2B Note Offering Amid Bitcoin Bet
February 20, 2025
Market analysts express concerns that Strategy's approach depends heavily on Bitcoin prices continuing to rise; a downturn could force the company to liquidate BTC holdings to repay creditors.
The transaction is expected to close on February 21, 2025, subject to standard closing conditions.
Year-to-date, MSTR shares have risen by 10%, outperforming the Nasdaq 100, which has gained 5%.
To fund further Bitcoin purchases, Strategy is conducting a private offering of $2 billion in convertible senior notes, targeting qualified institutional buyers.
On February 10, 2025, Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, acquired 7,633 BTC, increasing its total Bitcoin holdings to 478,740 BTC, valued at approximately $46.4 billion.
Initial buyers of the notes will have the option to purchase an additional $300 million within five business days after the initial issuance.
The company's continuous investment in Bitcoin reflects its optimistic outlook on the growth of digital assets and has begun to influence other institutional investors.
Following its rebranding on February 5, 2025, BlackRock increased its stake in Strategy to 5%, contributing to a 2.8% surge in the company's shares shortly thereafter.
Despite reporting a net loss of $670 million in Q4 2023, Strategy's stock price surged by 372% over the past year, indicating a positive shift in investor sentiment toward digital assets.
The stock currently holds a consensus Strong Buy rating from 11 Wall Street analysts, with no Hold or Sell ratings issued recently.
The offering consists of senior notes due in 2030 with a 0% coupon, aimed at raising capital amid a recent slowdown in cash generation through shares or debt.
Despite some rumors about potential difficulties with its strategy, no substantial issues have been reported as of now.
