ICP Boosts DeFi with Threshold-Schnorr Signatures for Bitcoin Integration
April 16, 2024
The Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) has adopted threshold-Schnorr signatures to improve Bitcoin's DeFi and web3 capabilities.
This cryptographic advancement enables ICP smart contracts to handle Bitcoin tokens and BRC-20 token transactions.
The integration with Bitcoin network facilitates a range of applications, including decentralized exchanges and Bitcoin inscriptions, which will gain value post-Bitcoin halving.
ICP smart contracts will also gain the ability to inscribe ordinals, bridge tokens, and sign Taproot transactions, enhancing functionality and security.
The anticipated full launch of this integration is scheduled for the upcoming summer.
Developers are increasingly turning to ICP to build a variety of applications, with several projects already active and more, like Omnity, launching soon.
