The General Council of health insurance is legally required to convene on the third Monday of October to approve the healthcare budget goal for 2025.

This year's meeting of the Inami General Council, taking place on October 20, 2024, is crucial for determining the future of the healthcare budget.

The council is composed of various stakeholders, including insurance organizations, employers, labor representatives, and government parties from the former Vivaldi coalition.

An agreement on the budget can only be reached if at least 50% of the votes support the proposal put forth by the Insurance Committee.

However, the MR and Open VLD parties may utilize their veto rights, arguing that the pharmaceutical sector is contributing excessively to the budget efforts.

If no agreement is reached during this critical meeting, there will be no healthcare budget approved for 2025.
