National Crisis Center Tests New BE-Alert Features with 1.5 Million Messages Sent Across Belgium
October 4, 2024As part of this test, cities and municipalities sent a total of 920,583 SMS messages.
In addition to SMS, over 598,389 emails and 60,664 voice messages were also dispatched.
Of the SMS sent, 388,539 were directed to registered citizens, while 532,044 were based on geographic location.
The location-based SMS test successfully informed individuals in specific geographic areas, including those not registered with BE-Alert.
New features of the BE-Alert system were also tested, including message delivery via information panels in the cities of Boom and Mechelen.
Participating cities in this test included Staden, Bree, Wuustwezel, Tubize, Beyne-Heusay, Tirlemont, Etterbeek, Grez-Doiceau, Termonde, Bastogne, and Fernelmont, as well as the provinces of Namur and Antwerp.
The National Crisis Center has conducted a communication test to assess the capacity and speed of message delivery during peak usage periods.
