National Crisis Center Tests New BE-Alert Features with 1.5 Million Messages Sent Across Belgium
  • As part of this test, cities and municipalities sent a total of 920,583 SMS messages.

  • In addition to SMS, over 598,389 emails and 60,664 voice messages were also dispatched.

  • Of the SMS sent, 388,539 were directed to registered citizens, while 532,044 were based on geographic location.

  • The location-based SMS test successfully informed individuals in specific geographic areas, including those not registered with BE-Alert.

  • New features of the BE-Alert system were also tested, including message delivery via information panels in the cities of Boom and Mechelen.

  • Participating cities in this test included Staden, Bree, Wuustwezel, Tubize, Beyne-Heusay, Tirlemont, Etterbeek, Grez-Doiceau, Termonde, Bastogne, and Fernelmont, as well as the provinces of Namur and Antwerp.

  • The National Crisis Center has conducted a communication test to assess the capacity and speed of message delivery during peak usage periods.
