A significant storm system is forecasted to hit the central US from Monday night through Wednesday, bringing severe weather conditions.

The high-risk areas for severe thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and possible tornadoes include Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Virginia, Southern Iowa, Northern Missouri, and Central Illinois.

Tornado season generally peaks from late April to mid-May, though predicting exact patterns is challenging and may be shifting due to climate change.

Recent scientific observations suggest tornadoes may be moving towards states along the Mississippi River and farther east, with climate change possibly causing drier conditions in the western Great Plains.

The National Weather Service advises residents in the affected states to stay informed and prepare for the upcoming severe weather.

Prior to this warning, storms have already impacted Ohio and Pennsylvania on Sunday evening.

Separately, the Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow alert for strong winds up to 90km/h across Belgium on Monday.
