This significant electoral shift suggests that Albanese could secure a majority government in the upcoming election.

In terms of personal popularity, Albanese is preferred by 48% of voters as prime minister, compared to Peter Dutton's 37%, marking an 11% lead for Albanese, the largest since June 2024.

Dutton has acknowledged concerns raised by dairy farmers regarding low milk prices in supermarkets, reflecting his attempt to connect with key voter issues.

However, Dutton's recent backtracking on controversial policies has negatively affected his voter standing, contributing to his decline in the preferred prime minister rankings.

In Victoria, the Coalition's primary vote has dropped by 11%, which significantly diminishes their previous advantage and limits potential gains.

Redbridge director Kos Samaras described this electoral shift as one of the most significant in living memory, particularly in Victoria.

The Greens and minor parties have maintained their support at 12%, while One Nation has seen a slight increase to 8%.

During a recent rally in Perth, Albanese promised to reserve 100,000 homes for first-time buyers, while Dutton proposed tax-deductible mortgage interest payments for first home buyers in western Sydney.

The survey, conducted online with 1,271 voters from April 7 to April 10, reflects political sentiments leading up to the formal campaign launches.

Despite the shifts, net satisfaction ratings for both leaders remain negative, with Albanese improving to -2% and Dutton declining to -15%, his lowest rating to date.

As the election approaches, early voting is set to begin on April 22, with 64% of respondents predicting a Labor government will emerge from the May 3 election.
