Hipages Energy Launches Auto-Switching Service, Promising 20% Savings on Electricity Bills
April 17, 2025
Hipages Energy has launched a new service designed to help Australian households automatically switch to more affordable energy plans, simplifying the often complex process of navigating energy tariffs.
Industry expert Roby Sharon-Zipser emphasized that customers using this auto-switching service will benefit from both an initial rebate and ongoing savings on their electricity bills.
The service guarantees that customers will save at least 20% in their first year compared to the previous year's electricity costs, with potential compensation in gift cards up to $1000 for any shortfall.
According to Sharon-Zipser, households can save an average of $250 annually by switching to the cheapest energy provider available.
Research indicates that households could save an additional $238 annually by avoiding loyalty taxes, thanks to state and federal rebates available until August 2024.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) reported that over 80% of households in the National Energy Network could potentially switch to cheaper plans if they actively explored their options.
The Hipages Energy service aims to consistently monitor household energy plans to ensure users are always on the best available tariff.
Utilizing Australian Open Energy initiatives, Hipages Energy allows users to access and share their energy data, facilitating easier switching between providers without contracts or lock-in agreements.
In addition, the Australian government has extended the energy rebate until the end of 2025, which will further reduce power bills by an additional $150 through two quarterly payments of $75.
Sharon-Zipser pointed out that many consumers are affected by the 'loyalty tax', which leads to overpayment for electricity due to a lack of transparency from energy providers.
