VR Innovator Cix Liv Launches REK, a Real-Life Robot Fighting Game, Amid Criticism of Meta
April 17, 2025
Cix Liv, known for co-founding the VR livestreaming tool LIV and the VR fitness tracker YUR, has ambitious plans for the future of virtual reality.
Initially, Cix envisioned REK as a mixed reality fighting game in 2022, but he shifted focus in 2023 due to low audience interest and technical challenges related to outdoor headset use.
While Cix had plans for a fitness-focused smart glove and headset under the brand Vi, these were ultimately scrapped due to funding issues; however, he still aims to develop a headset for controlling REK robots.
Cix has been vocal in his criticisms of Meta, alleging impending layoffs in its VR division and the outsourcing of headset design to China, claims that Meta's CTO has publicly denied.
His latest venture, REK, is a VR robot fighting game that allows top players to pilot real humanoid robots at physical events, with the game set to launch later this year.
The first physical robot fights are scheduled for 2025, where selected players will use tethered PC VR headsets to ensure minimal latency during the matches.
He has also accused Meta of not supporting essential background services for his YUR fitness tracker and of appropriating his idea with their Oculus Move feature, which has since been discontinued.
