The Nigerian American Football Association (NAFA), in collaboration with Browns Nigeria, has launched the Gridiron Gems programme in Lagos to promote gender inclusion in sports and empower girls.

Lolia Kienka, CEO of Gameday, inspired attendees to seize opportunities in sports and life, urging girls to stand up for themselves and recognize their worth.

Key speaker Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu emphasized the importance of recognizing potential and self-esteem for girls, drawing from her experience with the BEMORE Boot Camp.

NAFA President Babajide Akeredolu highlighted that American football is accessible to everyone, encouraging young girls to engage in the sport for physical and leadership development.

The program is committed to monitoring its progress to ensure sustainable impact and effectiveness.

The launch event attracted over 400 participants, highlighting NAFA's commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of young girls through sports.

Notable figures from sports, gender advocacy, and community development attended the event, which included impactful panel discussions on personal safety, self-empowerment, and skill development.

Kienka also urged the program to partner with more organizations for greater impact, emphasizing the need for collaboration in fostering female athletes.

Program coordinator Nancy Damhindi outlined Gridiron Gems' vision to train 10,000 women as coaches and referees by 2030, aiming to impact over 150,000 girls in the long term.

The initiative features practical workshops on digital literacy, self-defense, and entrepreneurship, reinforcing the importance of education and economic independence alongside athletic training.

This initiative aims to equip girls with essential life skills, leadership training, and personal growth opportunities.

The event featured interactive sessions that further engaged participants in discussions about empowerment and skill development.
