Zambia led the way with a remarkable 6-point increase in its resilience score, while Kenya followed closely with a 5-point improvement, alongside other nations making substantial gains.
Countries such as Uganda, Comoros, Madagascar, and Mozambique each improved by 4 points, while Ethiopia and Djibouti experienced a 3-point increase.
Since 2020, the Internet Society has established 16 Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) across Africa, facilitating faster and more affordable Internet access by enabling local networks to exchange traffic.
Western Africa and Middle Africa also saw notable improvements, each achieving a 2-point increase in their resilience scores.
Dawit Bekele, Regional Vice President for Africa at the Internet Society, praised the progress in digital development and stressed the need for continued investment to ensure reliable Internet access for all Africans.
In light of these advancements, a conference will be held on January 21, 2025, in Addis Ababa, focusing on addressing connectivity challenges and promoting regional cooperation among IGAD member states.
Africa's overall Internet resilience score has risen to 34%, marking a 1 percentage point improvement from the previous year, which enhances access to essential services.
