The African School of Governance (ASG) has appointed Professor Kingsley Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, as its inaugural president.

Moghalu's appointment took effect on October 1, 2024, following a global competitive search.

Makhtar Diop, managing director of the IFC and Chair of ASG's Board, expressed excitement about Moghalu's leadership experience and potential to transform the school into a hub for purpose-driven leaders.

The ASG aims to revolutionize governance in Africa by providing world-class public policy education and research programs tailored to African contexts.

The ASG is supported by the Mastercard Foundation as part of its Young Africa Works strategy, which aims to enable 30 million young Africans to access dignified work opportunities by 2030.

The school was founded by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, in collaboration with various African leaders and philanthropists.

The ASG will support leadership development through programs like the Young Leaders Programme (YLP) and Senior Leadership Fellowship (SLF).

ASG will offer various academic programs, including a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA), along with short executive courses.

The institution plans to establish four dedicated research centers focused on African governance, history, trade, and technology.

ASG will combine international best practices with Africa's unique political, social, and economic contexts.

Moghalu, recognized for his leadership in public policy and governance, has a background that includes 17 years in the United Nations and teaching at prestigious institutions like Harvard and Oxford.

Moghalu expressed his honor in leading ASG and shared a vision of a transformed Africa driven by competent governance.
