  • The signing ceremony took place at Alausa, Ikeja, and was led by Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab.

  • Each of the four modules will require 32 metric tonnes of flexible plastic waste per day, processing a total of 11,680 metric tonnes of plastic waste annually.

  • Dr. Akintayo Adisa, CEO of GreenDeal Chemicals, emphasized their commitment to reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices in alignment with Lagos State's circular economy plan.

  • The project is a pilot initiative in partnership with GreenDeal Chemicals and Recycling and Greenback Recycling Technologies Ltd.

  • The LOI signing was attended by key officials, including the Permanent Secretaries of Environmental Services and Drainage Services, as well as the Managing Director of LAWMA.

  • The British companies involved specialize in converting plastic waste to energy and will operate at the Abule Egba landfill.

  • This project will focus on collecting flexible plastic waste from the Abule Egba landfill for chemical recycling.

  • This initiative is expected to create approximately 1,100 jobs for waste pickers in Lagos and prevent 75,920 kilograms of CO2 emissions.

  • The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) will provide waste deliveries as feedstock for four chemical recycling modules that will be installed at the site.

  • If successful, additional recycling modules will be deployed to increase the volume of plastic waste processed.

  • The initiative aims to reduce plastic waste in Lagos and facilitate its conversion into energy.
