Telecom Egypt and 4iG Launch Subsea Cable to Bridge Three Continents
February 7, 2024Telecom Egypt and Hungary’s 4iG have partnered to construct a high-capacity subsea cable connecting Albania and Egypt.
The subsea cable project aims to enhance telecommunication links between Africa, Asia, and Europe, with future extensions to Libya, Cyprus, and Greece planned.
The collaboration will improve Albania's connectivity to Eastern and Central Europe as well as the Balkans.
Telecom Egypt has engaged in additional agreements with Aqaba Digital Hub, NaiTel, and Zain Omantel International for similar connectivity projects.
Plans are in place for Telecom Egypt to expand its subsea cable network with 5 more cables through international partnerships.
Telecom Egypt has been granted a 15-year license for 5G services as of January 2024, becoming the first in Egypt to be authorized.
The 5G initiative by Telecom Egypt is anticipated to secure a major portion of the data traffic market between Asia, East Africa, and Europe.
