Ati Motors Raises $20M to Accelerate Global Reach in Autonomous Robotics
January 23, 2025In line with the growing robotics sector, India's IT ministry proposed a National Strategy for Robotics to position the country as a global leader in the field by 2030.
NGP Capital, which co-led the funding round, has a history of investing in Indian companies, including notable startups like Zoom Car and Shadowfax.
Ati Motors, an autonomous mobile robots (AMR) startup based in India, has successfully raised $20 million in a Series B funding round to bolster its global expansion efforts.
The funding round was co-led by Walden Catalyst Ventures and NGP Capital, with participation from existing investors such as True Ventures, Exfinity Venture Partners, Athera Venture Partners, and Blume Ventures.
Walden Catalyst Ventures, known for its early investments in companies like Zoom, has not previously invested in Indian firms, marking a significant milestone for Ati Motors.
The startup specializes in industrial robotics for the automotive sector and aims to meet the increasing demand for domestic manufacturing in the U.S., India, and Southeast Asia.
Key customers of Ati Motors include major players such as Airbus, Hyundai, and Samsung, with 80% of its customer base in the automobile sector and a notable revenue share from the U.S.
Ati Motors operates on a robots-as-a-service (RaaS) model, allowing companies to lease or purchase their AMRs, with hundreds of Sherpa robots already deployed across 40 manufacturers.
Saurabh Chandra, the founder and CEO, stated that their competition lies in replacing manual operations rather than competing with other robotic solutions.
The company designs all its software and hardware in-house, utilizing Nvidia's Jetson platform for edge computing and developing advanced sensor-fusion algorithms.
Ati Motors has established a manufacturing and R&D facility in Bengaluru, where it has developed seven distinct robots, with two currently in testing and set to launch soon.
This strategic push comes amid a significant 59% year-on-year growth in industrial robotics installations in India, totaling 8,500 units.
