OpenAI has launched its Usage API, designed to assist developers in tracking their activity on the OpenAI API while managing associated costs.

This new API enables users to monitor token usage in various timeframes—by minute, hour, or day—and offers filtering options based on invoice line items, API keys, project IDs, user IDs, and models.

Additionally, a dedicated Costs endpoint is included to facilitate cost management, optimize workflows, and support quicker decision-making.

The Usage API is now available, and comprehensive usage instructions can be found in the API documentation.

However, OpenAI cautions that data obtained from the Usage API may not align with the Costs due to differing recording methods, and it advises against relying on this data for financial purposes.
