The judges emphasized that Perry had developed an 'international reputation' in the music industry, which legally allowed her to use her name in Australia.

In their ruling, the judges canceled Taylor's trademark registration, noting that she had applied for it after becoming aware of Perry's fame, which led to potential consumer confusion.

Following the ruling, Taylor expressed devastation, stating that her dreams of running her fashion label, which she had worked on since 2006, had been taken away.

Perry's legal team had attempted to resolve the trademark dispute back in 2009 by sending a 'cease and desist' letter and proposing a coexistence agreement, which Taylor rejected.

The conflict escalated in October 2019 when Taylor sued Perry for trademark infringement related to her brand 'Katie Perry', which Taylor had trademarked in Australia since September 29, 2008.

Earlier, in April 2023, a court ruled that Perry's merchandise from her 2014 tour infringed on Taylor's trademark, which had been held since 2008.

Perry's successful appeal against the trademark decision highlighted the unfortunate nature of the case, where both women independently adopted their names as trademarks without knowledge of each other.

The judges remarked that Taylor's rejection of the coexistence agreement ultimately led to the conflict, stating she 'brought this result on herself'.

Amidst the legal battles, Katy Perry announced a UK tour for 2025, pledging to donate £1 from every ticket to the Music Venue Trust to support grassroots music venues.

The tour is set to kick off on October 7, 2025, at Glasgow's OVO Hydro Arena and will conclude on October 13, 2025, at the O2 Arena in London.

Perry's connection to the UK music scene began with her first performances in small venues across London in 2008, leading to her significant recognition with the hit single 'I Kissed a Girl' released in April 2008.
