Veteran actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher recently announced his new directorial project titled 'The Return' at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

This film is a co-production between Kher's studio in India and the Australian film company Temple, with over 90% of the shooting planned to take place in Australia.

Paul Murphy, the Australian Consul General in Mumbai, endorsed Kher's project, emphasizing the growing popularity of Indian cinema in Australia and the new financing opportunities arising from their co-production agreement.

The film benefits from a new co-production agreement between Australia and India, which aims to enhance collaboration in the film industry.

Both Kher and Anupam Sharma from Temple expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the importance of storytelling in strengthening Australia-India film ties.

An Australian actor will play a key role in the film, showcasing the involvement of Australian talent across various production departments.

Currently, Kher's studio is finalizing production on another film titled 'Tanvi The Great', which is scheduled for release in late 2025.

Kher has an extensive career spanning over 35 years, with over 540 films and 100 plays to his credit, including notable international works like 'Silver Linings Playbook' and 'Hotel Mumbai'.

He is a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, and is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

Kher expressed a long-standing affection for Australia, recalling his first filming experience there in 1998 and his participation in the AACTA international jury.

Herman De Souza, CEO of Anupam Kher Studio, emphasized the studio's commitment to international storytelling and character-driven cinema.

Sharma remarked that Kher's film will significantly strengthen the film links and relationships between Australia and India.
