Speedcast Reaches 10,000 Starlink Kits Sold, Boosting Satellite Internet Solutions Across Sectors
November 20, 2024On November 20, 2024, Speedcast announced a significant milestone, having sold over 10,000 Starlink kits as an authorized integrator of SpaceX's satellite internet service.
The company has successfully deployed Starlink solutions for more than a third of its customer base, impacting sectors such as maritime, enterprise, and its UltiSat subsidiary, which services the U.S. government.
Speedcast offers Starlink services through various configurations, including primary, multipath, and dual Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) setups.
The effectiveness of Speedcast's multipath services was highlighted during the Intelsat-33e satellite failure in October 2024, where over 80% of affected sites managed to switch to alternate connectivity within 10 minutes.
Alix Wright, Speedcast's SVP of Marketing Communications, reported that most customer sites were restored quickly during a recent satellite outage, with full restoration achieved within hours.
UltiSat CEO David Myers emphasized the importance of integrating satellite communications for disaster response, noting that in October, UltiSat delivered 500 terminals to a federal relief agency for Hurricane Milton and recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene.
Starlink has not previously offered service level agreements (SLAs), which has been a competitive differentiator; however, SLAs are expected to be introduced in 2025.
James Trevelyan, Speedcast's executive VP of Global Sales, stated that the anticipated 99.9% SLA from Starlink is expected to enhance sales growth opportunities for the company in 2025.
