Starlink, the satellite internet service by SpaceX, has garnered positive feedback from healthcare providers in Rwanda.

Jean Louis Murhirwa, a midwife at Buyoga Health Centre, noted that prior to Starlink's installation, internet access was limited to mornings and could only support a few devices, creating significant operational challenges.

By mid-2023, the Rwandan Government had successfully installed Starlink at 40 health centers across regions such as Rusizi, Rulindo, and Kigali, greatly improving connectivity issues.

Healthcare workers in Rwanda reported significant enhancements in patient care within the first eight months following the installation of Starlink.

The introduction of Starlink has enabled efficient paperless workflows, expedited patient care, and improved coordination with national health initiatives in the country's health centers.

Elie Ahimana, head of Kinini Health Centre, is advocating for broader access to Starlink or similar internet services to enhance healthcare services across Rwanda.

Ahimana emphasized that improved internet connectivity aligns with Rwanda's national vision for efficient resource use and the enhancement of quality healthcare.

In addition to its success in Rwanda, Starlink is looking to expand its services in India, although it faces challenges related to spectrum allocation with local telecom companies.

Starlink's capabilities have also been utilized in the U.S., where FEMA deployed the service to assist North Carolina's Emergency Operations Center, ensuring reliable communication for first responders during crises.

Elon Musk announced that Starlink services will remain free for disaster-affected areas in the U.S. through 2024, including regions impacted by recent hurricanes.

Starlink is collaborating with T-Mobile US to launch Direct-to-Cellular services, further expanding its network capabilities.

However, Musk faces scrutiny regarding Starlink's role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as reports indicate that the proliferation of Starlink satellites has intensified attacks by Russian forces.
