On September 22, 2024, Stewart Phillip Porter, a 21-year-old climber from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, tragically fell to his death while rappelling at Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming.

Porter's climbing partner, who was stranded on the tower, was rescued with assistance from local climbing guides.

Porter was descending the second pitch of the El Cracko Diablo route when he fell, sustaining major injuries that led to his death at the scene.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 8 p.m., and responders located both Porter and his climbing partner approximately 40 minutes later.
