Kia Unveils 2025 EV6: Tesla-Compatible Charging, Extended Range, and New Features
November 21, 2024Notably, the 2025 EV6 comes with a Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, allowing direct access to Tesla Superchargers without the need for an adapter.
The charging port has been strategically relocated to the left rear of the vehicle, facilitating easier access to Supercharger stations, which were historically designed for Tesla vehicles.
Trim levels have been restructured, including a base Light RWD model, three 84 kWh variants, and a high-performance AWD-only GT trim that boasts a power increase to 601 hp.
Kia has unveiled the facelifted 2025 model of its EV6 crossover at the LA Auto Show, showcasing significant updates and enhancements.
The updated EV6 features a redesigned grille, larger battery options for increased range, and an interior equipped with over-the-air software capabilities.
Interior enhancements include a redesigned steering wheel and a new Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system, which features improved graphics and faster performance.
Production of the EV6 will now take place at Kia's West Point, Georgia assembly plant, aligning with the Biden administration's initiatives to promote domestic EV manufacturing.
Despite these advancements, recent political developments pose a threat to the EV tax credit, which could affect the affordability and manufacturing landscape for electric vehicles in the U.S.
The EV6 has gained popularity in the U.S. market, particularly for its fast charging capabilities, and is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2024.
Battery options have also been upgraded, with the base model now featuring a 63 kWh battery and the larger option increased to 84 kWh, providing a potential range of up to 319 miles.
The GT model introduces a new 'Virtual Gear Shift' feature that simulates traditional gear shifts, enhancing the driving experience, though it may slightly impact performance.
This update is part of a broader refresh of the EV6, which includes aesthetic changes such as new taillights and redesigned bumpers that enhance its aggressive stance.
